the best content
on the web

has the entire world gone mad or is it just my news-feed?

this filter bubble,
is your neighborhood.

THE PROBLEM
the Web 2.0 let's users find content they agree with & then nudges users to find more content based on their past searches –locking them in their own past.
Web-anonymity allows users to engage with their darkest and weirdest selves and then congregate accordingly.

MY SOLUTION
an image-board that uses the Wifi-Hotspot function of smartphones to share information directly with all other phones in reach – within a 150 meter radius.
Sharing content like this, keeps total anonymity and but only connects users with people that are close enough to potentially talk to in real life.

THE APP
the Radius app does three things: it sends content to phones within reach, it saves received content on your device and it displays received content to be curated by you.
The curation interface uses swipe gestures, left-swiped content is deleted from your device and will not be shown to you ever again, while right-swiped content is now shared from your device. The stack of received content is sorted by how fresh and viral it is.

POSSIBLE CONTENT
any text, image, short video and audio is possible to share.
The only filter mechanism is locality and any form of content censorship or governance is technically impossible. Content is constantly curated by conscious individuals instead of censor-bots, so what kind of content is acceptable in your neighbourhood is in constant negotiation.
Like any image-board the casual user will only see what has been deemed within good taste by other users, while extreme users have the chance to go deep into the conversation and do their part in defining the Overton Window around them.

INTERLACED NETWORKS
tutored by Prof. Nils Krüger & Prof. Dr. Frank Heidmann
supported by BMW Group

BMW Group challenged the class to find meaningful connections between existing networks and infrastructure in a very conceptual Design semester project. We were in no way limited to to cars or even transportation as a topic.

I switched topic completely 6 weeks into research after attending a workshop given by Jochen Maria Weber and Thomek Ness and learning about network topologies.

p2p NETWORKS
Individuals exchange information directly

HUB & SPOKE NETWORKS
Individuals exchange information over one central node,
where access to information can easily be limited.

complete freedom of information
makes it easy to see the bigger picture,
even if there are outlier narratives.

restricted access to information
makes it easy to draw the wrong conclusions,
people can be drawn in by conspiracy theories.

restricted access to information makes it easy to draw the wrong conclusions
By connecting outliers with selected information one can be drawn in by conspiracy theorys.
