My Role & Responsibilities

As Digital Product Design Lead for this program, I lead and supervised both external and in-house talent to channel the global Digital Strategy into this unique vehicle.
We produced an implementation-ready design system, designed hundreds of hero screens, and crafted every 2D and 3D asset shown in any of the screens of the vehicle.

I paid special attention to our global Digital Strategy while working within the feasibility constraints of this unique platform.

It's all coming together: Electric Explorer 2023

I really enjoy working alongside Exterior, Interior, Lighting, and CMF Designers in the Studio.
Everybody is focused on their specialty but we all come together at the prototypes.

Design Process

When I started on the Electric Explorer the global Digital Strategy was still being defined and the operating system we designed for was new and still in development.

With the digital experience in a state of high ambiguity, it was on me to bring stability into the program and get buy-in from design leadership and our partners in engineering early in the process.

On our way to narrowing down on design intent and making sense of the numerous constraints I often presented high-fidelity prototypes inside the interior bucks to de-risk design decisions by getting early buy-in from senior leadership via a "what you see is what you get" style of presentation.
As Digital Product Design Lead for this program, I lead and supervised a multidisciplinary team of Visual Designers, Ui System Specialists, Prototypers, and Visual Artists.

We leveraged both in-house and external talent and kept most communication asynchronous to maximize individual working time.

Regularly coming together for in-person workshops around a prototype for quicker alignment, to foster internal relationships, and to keep the spirits up.

Working closely with our partners in engineering early on we built the DSM mindful of the underlying code-base and specifications.

This close collaboration allows us to push the software's constraints, sometimes extending the functionality of the OS to new not originally intended uses.

We produced an implementation-ready UI Kit, designed hundreds of hero screens, and crafted every 2D and 3D asset shown in any of the screens of the vehicle.

The scope of work went from the welcome animation and drive-mode assets to the colors of the maps, every page layout, and the composition of templates, down to atomic design like each individual button state.

I paid special attention to maintaining the global consistency of Ford's Digital Products as this EU-exclusive must feel right at home in a showroom next to the Mustang Mach-E, Ranger, Bronco, or Puma.
